About Me

This is my fourth year as a teacher in Myanmar, with the entirety of that time spent at MISY. I have supported the school as a Humanities Teacher, University Counsellor, and currently as the Head of Curriculum & Assessment.

As a teacher I believe the classroom should be a safe space for all students to learn and enjoy their time, as a student learns best when they are happy. My classroom policy is that teaching and learning is done best with lots of conversations, activities, and enjoyment. When students are able to take ownership of their learning they are far more likely to succeed.

Geography is a crucial but sometimes overlooked subject. It is the connections  between many of the concepts and theories that other subjects teach. Economics, Business, Biology, Chemistry, and History are all examples of subjects that can be found in the Geography curriculum. Having a good understanding of Geography will allow you to appreciate other lessons to a deeper level. Importantly international universities value Geography highly as it allows you to apply learning to real-life scenarios.

Outside of being a teacher I enjoy playing sports, especially rugby and squash. Last year I began playing football on Fridays after school for the first time and I’m looking forward to continuing that.  I am also a fan of hiking in mountains and forests as it allows me to explore new areas (and its Geography!); and I am a keen scuba-diver.

Area of Special Interest

I have a special interest in engaging students with their wider community. I have previously helped run a Duke of Edinburgh award which encourages young people to participate in charity, sport, and learn a new skill – all of which can benefit the community. This also includes going on a multi-day hike This not only helps the community, but also is very good for student applications to university!
